St. Louis Halloween 10k
This is a long post… Get comfortable.
Ok, ready?
I got up at the crack of dawn on Sunday so that I could run in a race (story of my life). Sunday was the Go! St. Louis Halloween 10k.
The weather seemed pretty good. I put on my costume:
Behind me is John Travolta in Grease and the Pink Ladies!
Mark got up early to be there with me (AGAIN, what a guy) and took some great pictures.
After we started, I didn’t feel so great. My hips were really tight and it went from warm to really warm quickly. I was thirsty and I had to pee. I knew there was water at mile 3 so I figured I would be ok.
Donald and Daisy Duck!
Riding a bull?
Um…?
Forrest Gump!
There’s a cute bunny in there
So at mile 3 there was water but no bathroom facilities. I really felt that the course was quite hilly and my legs were struggling with them. The course was cramped for the number of racers that were there. I was disappointed that there was no bathroom but it was only a 10k so I knew it was wishful thinking. However, they gave out medals – and I bet you know how I think they should have spent that money.
I did not beat or come close to my last 10k PR and finished in 58:30. But I did the best I could and that’s all that matters.
I did have a good time checking out other people’s costumes. My favorites were one lady dressed as Tiger Woods’ ex-wife in a bathrobe and holding a 9-iron. Another one was a runner dressed in normal clothes with a sign on her back that said: “Nudist on strike.” Clever ladies. I was a little sad I didn’t see Clare or Stephanie! Boo.
For dinner last night I made Chicken Paprikash from week 3 of the Real Simple cook through.
It is made with egg noodles, chicken drumsticks and a tomato-bell pepper- onion sauce topped with sour cream and dill.
With a salad on the side.
(I think he is picking out the onions…)
This morning I finally tried Oats in a Jar, popularized by Katheats.com. This concept has been popular for a couple of years and finally I tried it.
Honestly, I kind of know why I waited so long to try this. It’s so rich! There isn’t that much cashew butter left in the jar, but it tastes a little heavy to me for breakfast. At least I know what I’ve been missing now
I’ll be full for a while!
