A great start
Happy Labor Day! The week is off to a great start – no work on Monday and I have a 3 day work week!
Another great part was that this morning I had an awesome long run. Last week, I had a grueling 9.5 run. I’m not sure why, but my body didn’t feel up to it – I was hot, tired, and felt spent after 6 miles. I was not sure if I could make it to 13 miles in a month!
This morning, I still had thoughts of dropping out of the half marathon – as I’ve said many times before, one of the hardest parts of running is battling self-doubt. It has taken viral status lately. Anyway, I went out telling myself that I would run 8 miles but I had it in my head that I wanted to do more just to prove to myself that I could do this. Well, I can. I did 11.6 miles. This half marathon is on like donkey kong.
It’s hard to recap three days, but this weekend I:
1. Read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (I really liked it)
2. Went to my husband’s cousin’s vow renewal – here he is with his mom:
3. Today Mark and I had friends over for a BBQ and I made Heather’s Eggplant Chips. I normally don’t like eggplant, but I’ve been wanting to give them another try, and I’m glad I did. They didn’t taste bitter at all. Roasting a vegetable never lets you down. It’s a rule.
4. After that, my friend Robin and I went to the Japanese festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
The pond had lily pads (they look fake but they are real!) and glass Chihuly bulbs.
Then there was sumo wrestling! Here are the three sumo wrestlers warming up:
And a sumo match. Smack!
If it looks like it was a beautiful day, it’s because it was.
Mark and our friend David made pumpkin beer while Robin and I were out. It was a real ordeal to find pumpkin because of the pumpkin shortage. But we found some and we’re crossing our fingers that the beer turns out.
I’m excited for pumpkin season. Are you?
