Busy Sunday
This morning I had another very chilly long run. It was in the 20s, but I was thankful that there was no snow to battle. I did 14 rather sluggish miles. Not sure exactly why, but from the very beginning, my legs felt like lead. I thought about giving up half way through the run (when I was stopping to rehydrate at my car) but I pushed on. At about mile 11, I started using the Galloway method. But it wasn’t technically the Galloway method — I just ran a mile, walked for one minute. It was just to get me mentally through the run. My pace averaged at about a 10 minute mile for the whole run–not much better than when I was running in the snow last week. I suppose it is because I did my tempo run on Saturday that my legs were not so fresh. I’m a little disappointed with my pace, but happy that I am getting through the miles.
I know my legs were spent at the end of last week’s long run and this long run because both times I tried to sprint the last 1/5 of the last mile — and after I really felt like I was pushing it, I looked down at my Garmin and saw that I was just maintaining pace! It’s like running in wet cement.
After my long run, my husband, Mark, Ada, and I went downtown to Soulard for the annual dog parade. Last year we just watched, but this year we walked in the dog parade. Ada’s grandmother gave her a cute costume:
Last year, there was a buffalo at the end of the parade. This year, there was a pony.
Ada could not figure out what kind of dog it was:
Luckily the pony was very tolerant of this kind of behavior. It’s fun to own a weimaraner. Random weim owners walk up to us and talk to us about their dogs, as do fans of weims. We get a lot of “have you heard of William Wegman“?
After all that walking and hind-quarter sniffing, we are tired!
(Mark is not big on the hind-quarter sniffing, but being pulled across Soulard by a 60 pounds of canine is tiring.)
I am so happy to be inside after 5-6 hours of 20-30° weather, and put my legs up for a little while. I think we are going to remain on the couch for the Super Bowl, do some laundry, and otherwise lay low.
