Ok, so I think I’m getting my running mojo back. A few major events in my life have taken place, which meant my running lost its focus and I just did it for fun/running-induced jelly bean cravings. I got engaged and have been having oh-so-much-fun with wedding planning stress, and I quit my job. I have not been literally chasing ambulances these days. I am working, but it’s not anywhere I can start a career and it’s not remotely legal. I am still not sure what the future holds for me career-wise, but the closer I get to the wedding (October) the more clearly I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

On the Fourth of July, I ran the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce 10k. In the rain. It wasn’t light rain either. When I woke up at 5:00 a.m. to a downpour of rain to start getting ready, I briefly considered not racing. Then I thought to myself, “At least it won’t be hot,” and overzealously, “Maybe people will chicken out and I can place.” I was right about one of those things . . . It was pretty cool. Had it been hotter, my time would have suffered even more. I finished in 56 minutes, three minutes slower than the last one I did which was two years ago (wow, that was a long time ago). I am not sure how to account for the difference. My speed a few years ago was at an 8:30 pace. I’m not sure I am even capable of running that fast or was ever capable, so that surprises me. It was in February in a cave, so it definitely was cooler. I remember being disappointed with that time too–what a goof I am, always wishing I had ran faster! And for this one I didn’t speed train at all and rarely run over 9:00 pace, so there you go, I guess. I was proud of the fact that I was 7th in my age group. Yay.

Next up is the Lewis & Clark half marathon in September, and yes… I have marathon ambitions for the spring, yet again. After all, that was why I started this blog! I haven’t signed up for anything, but I am pretty sure I’ll try the one here in St. Louis. I didn’t want to do one any sooner with all the other things I have on my plate this year.
