6.29.08 Sunday
This week will be 3/4/3/9, week 4 in marathon training. Today I ran my first 5k ever – 28 minutes. Not what I was hoping for. It was a pretty hilly course. I would like to get a 5k in all sub 9 minute miles but I can see now that hoping for that was unrealistic, since I have done zero speedwork! I don’t normally do more than one sub 9 minute mile per run. It was still nice to get out and do a race today. Now I have an idea of where I can take my next 5k. The weather was great, I couldn’t have asked for better. About an hour after the race, it started sprinkling so I think it was perfect timing too! And I can say I came in 22nd, which is the best I’ve ever placed in any race! (not sure how many participated – 100 or 150?) I may put up a picture … if I can find one that isn’t too unflattering
You may have noticed I’ve added some new features on the right column of my blog- a log for daily caloric intake and also a log for my runs. I’d like to stay on track with that. I don’t tend to gain weight while training, but a lot of people do, and it’s something I’ll need to stay on top of so that I don’t. When I was training in the winter I noticed an unhealthy trend of overeating the night before a long run, knowing that I had the long run, and then continuing the overeating the next day, rationalizing that I had done all that running. I noticed that pattern develop with my regular training runs too.
Enough about that, and onto the next week.

week 3
I am going to have to modify the rest of the week’s plan – this was 3/4/3/5. But I had a head cold this week and haven’t felt up to running this week so far. So I’m going to do 4/4/5/3 instead. Tonight is 4, and then on Sunday I’m doing my first 5k. I have never done one before and I decided to do one since my trial settled and I don’t have to work on the case this weekend. I would like to get an idea of how I could do. Needless to say I haven’t trained. But getting faster is one of those things I would like so I’ll give it a shot to give me a baseline for improvement. And at this stage in my marathon training plan a 3 miler is a training run so why not?

Week 2
This is the second week of marathon training to the Chicago Marathon. I chose the beginner’s plan from Hal Higdon’s Marathoning book. That’s what I am any way, having not ran a marathon before. The running is not going to be hard… It’s getting it in that will be hard. You know what I am talking about….
GETTING UP IN THE MORNING!
The. hardest. thing. As I’ve mentioned before, I have a really tough time dragging myself out of bed. But for a little 3 miler, it’s not that bad. It’s just the struggle I have, no matter how long the run. I guess I just really like sleep. This week is 3/3/3/7. On Sunday I did my “long” run of 6 miles. I hadn’t ran that long in a while (I’ve been doing 4 miles as a default). I was doing intervals and it felt like I hadn’t done that in so long! It was great.
I know I have not been keeping up well with the blog. Now that I am training again, I expect I will do better, and I WILL do better!
